Building the Molly Cabinet A Five Stage Look at Our Most Loved Display Unit

Take a look at how we build our most popular custom display unit the Molly Cabinet. Designed by Vintage etc and built in oak or reclaimed Oregon, this cabinet is a favorite across South Africa for displaying crockery, cutlery, glassware, and more.

The Molly Cabinet is one of our most popular pieces and for good reason. It's functional, timeless, and beautifully built. With a solid base of drawers for cutlery, candles, and homeware, and top sections with glass sliding doors and adjustable shelves, it works as hard as it looks good.

We make this cabinet in two options, sleek oak for a warm modern look, or reclaimed Oregon pine for those who prefer a rustic lived in aesthetic and want to work with upcycled materials.

You can see the cabinet contents from both the front and the sides, which makes it ideal for showcasing collections, crockery, teapots, crystal, china, glassware, or liquor. It's a firm favourite for display and storage all in one.

We offer a wide range of custom built cabinets at Vintage etc, but this is a piece we designed from the ground up, and it's become something of a signature in our line.

In this blog post, we're showing a quick five stage overview of how it's made, from the first frame to the finished piece. We hope it helps you understand what goes into it, and maybe even helps you plan your own.

Do you love it as much as our other clients do?

If you're dreaming of a cabinet for a specific space, under a staircase, in an alcove, around a nib wall or a return ceiling, we can help. Every Molly Cabinet is made to order, and we ship nationwide across South Africa including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, and the Garden Route.
