Before and after Images of a refurbished family home in CT

It is not that easy to see the potential of a face brick house that has not been renovated for 30 years, but the bones of this house presented an exciting renovation opportunity and we share the before/after photos here.

Firstly, it was all on one level - with safe section of bedrooms that could be locked off at night. The entertainment area provided great potential for open plan living.   We decided to take the ceilings down (not for the feint hearted if you don't consider the electrical bill for rewiring the whole house) but to keep the existing roof tiles to save budget.

Next the entire living area was opened up to create one exceptionally large open flow eating, dining and living space.  The indoor flows seamlessly to the outdoor patio with pantone sprayed folding doors - and a  double sided wood burning fireplace keeps the big space warm in winter.

Once the house was plastered,  and road facing windows were replaced with sash- style windows, we all sighed with relief.  Special attention was paid the the kitchen area for this "foodie family" whose dream it is to be grow a food blog, so she needed a great backdrop for her videos and blogs.  The island was designed to seat five.

The family's vast collection of photography was given its own platform on three super long picture rails with a lip, to prevent them sliding off.

We tried to keep as much of the owner's existing furniture as possible with some upgrades to keep the house with a lived in "old meets new" vibe. The build in Oak Island was built by Vintage-etc - as was the turned leg dining table from reclaimed wood, aged Oak bar stools,  the Oregon cross-leg outdoor table and the glass cabinet that homes antique crockery.

The outdoor benches were salvaged old ceiling beams and converted into sleeper style benches.

The office desk was their old Oak kitchen table, that was converted to a modern desk, the legs were removed and replaced with tubular steel to make it more current.

Herewith some before and after images - to show the transformation.
