Bistro Kitchen Makeover

This is the kitchen of a real "foodie family" and is where everybody verges to share their day and to film food blogs. Their brief was to design around the imported Lacanche oven and create a bistro style space with a magnificent oak sharing island, which is also to be used for food shoots and food blogging (see pictures below). Bistro style tiles were sourced in Cape Town and the island was hand made by a carefully selected carpenter who bleached the oak first. Lighting was carefully considered for the open plan space, including under the island on the bleached oak bar stools and at floor level.  The chopping board was designed with up-stands end blocks of oak for heavy duty chopping, it can slide out for sanding and cleaning without compromising the rest of the island. This kitchen has (in 2017) been the location for several TV commercials including Pampers Cat Food, Liberty Life and Blue Ribbon Bread.

LED strip lighting placed under the counter for ambience and warmth in the evenings in the very open plan space. 

An inset chopping block allows for removal and cleaning and sanding.
