Ngwenya Iroko Live-Edge Table
Live Edge Iroko Dining Table
A solid Live Edge Iroko dining table, designed for both indoor and covered outdoor use. At Vintage-etc, we often recommend Iroko for covered patios spaces, as it is an indigenous hardwood that handles fluctuating temperatures far better than many other mainstream timbers. It is made from a natural "live edge" slab of wood, which means no two pieces are ever the same. Variations in tone are expected, from deeper browns through to lighter, blonde sections, along with natural kinks, curves, and occasional splits. These are not faults, but part of the character of live edge timber.
In terms of sizing, live edge slabs are naturally irregular. Most tables measure around 900mm at their widest point and taper down to approximately 700mm along the length. This variation gives each table its organic shape and unique presence in a space. Live edge tables can be made from 2 meter to 4 meters in size, and sizing will depend on what is available at the time of your order.
If a wider table is required, we can join two slabs to create a broader top while still maintaining the natural look and flow of the grain. Built by Vintage-etc, this is a table designed to last for many years. With the right care, it will continue to develop character over time and remain a central feature in your home or on your covered patio

Wood Types & Finishes
We offer a range of timber and finish options including Oak, Ash, Reclaimed Oregon, Iroko and Teak. As wood is a natural material, variation in grain, tone, texture and movement is normal and forms part of the character of each piece.
Oak and Ash are best suited to indoor or covered areas, while hardwoods such as Iroko and Teak are recommended for harsher environments or outdoor use. Reclaimed Oregon offers a more aged, character-rich finish with natural variation between batches.

Outdoor Use
Oak, Oregon, Ash, and similar woods are not designed for prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, rain, or harsh outdoor conditions. If you intend to use any of these woods in a exposed outdoor area, or in a sunny conservatory, braai room, or near a fireplace, please contact us before purchasing so we can advise on a suitable timber for your environment. Wood is hygroscopic, meaning it expands when it dries out, this is completely normal. It is the client's responsiblity to choose the right wood type for your specific site.

All our pieces are made to order, and most pieces can be customised. Standard size options are reflected in the product dimensions but if you need something outside of those, get in touch and we'll asses the requirements and work up a tailored quotation if suitable.

NATURAL TIMBER CHARACTERISTICS
Solid and reclaimed timber is a natural material, no two pieces are identical. Expect variation in grain, tone, and texture, and minor characteristics such as knots, hairline cracks, or colour shifts. These are not defects; they are what makes each piece unique. Timber also moves slightly with changes in temperature and humidity, which may occasionally affect drawers or doors. This is normal and expected behaviour. Please note, we are Vintage-etc, each item is hand made by a small team, you can expect hand finished detials, and slighltly varied finishes from item to item, its part of our charm. We are not about cookie cutter perfection, we create homes with soul.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Keep furniture away from direct sunlight, heaters, and air conditioning vents, pizze ovens and braais. Clean with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth, avoid harsh chemicals or excessive water. Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect surfaces from heat and moisture. To recondition, lightly sand with fine-grit sandpaper and apply a quality oil finish such as Pro Nature. For routine upkeep, a natural beeswax works well and is available from Takealot, Builders Warehouse, or MICA. Dispose of oil-soaked cloths in water after use as some finishing oils are flammable when dry.
LEAD TIMES
Our current lead time 30-40 days from confirmed order and cleared payment. This can vary during peak seasons and volumes affect lead times. We'll always give you a clear timeline when your order is placed and keep you updated throughout.
